Foam-Rolling/Self-Myofacial Release Tutorial

In this video, Kara presents the what, how, and why of Self-Myofacial Release (SMR) or commonly known as “foam-rolling” or “trigger point therapy.” Facia is a thin sheath of fibrous tissue enclosing a muscle or organ. Due to muscle imbalances, improper movement patterns, repetitive stress injuries, and vigorous exercise the fascia of a muscle can become tight, restricted, and bunch together to form fascial adhesions or “knots.” Just as a massage therapist, uses their hands to release knots or trigger points in one’s muscles, you can also use a variety of tools to accomplish the same goal yourself. These tools include foam rollers, therapy balls, hand rollers and the “fascia blaster,” all of which will be covered in the video. Using these techniques on a regular basis can help relieve chronic pain in areas like the shoulders, hips, back, knees, and feet. Regularly using SMR techniques can also help muscles recover quicker from exercise by increasing blood flow and removing waste products form the tissue. Finally, these techniques are beneficial when rehabbing injuries*** and can even help reduce the appearance of cellulite!
