Welcome to another easy piano tutorial from Merriam’s Online Academy. Today we’re going to be learning how to play the song “This Old Man” on the piano. This is a video for beginner piano players.

You don’t need to know a lot about piano to play this, but you do need to know how to read notes on the staff. And there are eighth notes in this song. So, if you’re not familiar with either of those concepts, or you need a refresher on them, please check out some of our other videos on those and then come on back and join us when you’re ready.

And, whenever you’re ready to go, you can download the free sheet music in the link above and play along. Okay, before we start to learning it, I’ll just play it all the way through so you can hear it.

This Old Man is a children’s song, counting and nursery rhyme. It is also one of the most popular folk songs. This Old Man songs origins are obscure but it has been traced back to the 1800s under the title “Jack Jintle”.

We’ve laid this piano tutorial out as a stand-alone video, or as a practice aid to use within an existing lesson system.
