Without being aware of it, we’re often faced with upsells and downsells in our everyday lives. One of the most common ones are at fast food places, where cashiers ask us if “we would like to supersize our drink?”.
Implementing these upsells and downsells into our own businesses help increase the total profit per order and let us spend more in ads. When we spend more in ads, we get more customers and grow our business faster.
In addition to increased profits, upsells and downsells let our customers experience more of our products and/or service. If we do a good job with this, they often come back to buy more.
When it comes to the strategy of upselling and downselling, it’s very simple. Upsell #1 should be the SAME exact product the customer just bought at a discounted price and the same goes for downsell #1.
Upsell #2 and #3 are simply complementary items to upsell #1 or the main product. It’s also important to keep in mind that something that worked for me may not always work for you.
Always be open to test new things and find the perfect combination which takes your AOV and profits to the next level.
