Analog Photography Tutorial: How to Use Filters for Black and White Photos

What kind of filters are there and what kind of effects may they produce?
A short introduction for the use of colour and polarizing filters in black and white photography.

There are more sophisticated (and economic) filter systems on the market where you use sheets instead of round filters that can be adapted on several lens diameters, but as most of the Carl Zeiss lenses I used had a 55mm diameter front I have always used the filters shown in this video for the Contax system.

Note: Many digital SLRs have a special menu where you may use virtual filters to create a similar effect, but once you used a real filter in front of your lens you will find out that its effect is much stronger on the picture, so this short analog photography tutorial might also be helpful for digital photographers who want to test out old techniques.
