This video demonstrates how Nexcess (http://www.nexcess.net) clients can install the Magento application, using SimpleScripts, which is available through the SiteWorx control panel. This demo is one in a series of Client Support videos available at http://www.nexcess.net/support.
To install Magento, you must have an existing SiteWorx account. Also, the application requires a MySQL database. You can choose to have a database automatically created for you during the installation process, or, if you prefer to create the database yourself, be sure to do so before installing the application, and make note of the database/database user information.
During the course of this demonstration, you will see how to:
Log in to SiteWorx,
From within SiteWorx, access the SimpleScripts page
Specify installation preferences for Magento
Run the installation
Retrieve installation details so that you can access your Magento instance.
To get started, you will need to access the SiteWorx login page, and then log in using your SiteWorx login information. This information can be found in the “Welcome” e-mail that was sent to you when your Nexcess account was activated.
On the SiteWorx main menu, click to expand the Hosting Features group.
And then within the Hosting Features group, click the SimpleScripts option.
Now you see the SimpleScripts page. Under eCommerce, click Magento.
By clicking Install, you are accepting the SimpleScripts terms of service agreement. Before proceeding, click to read the terms of the agreement. If you accept the terms, click Install.
The button says, “Loading”. This means the script is checking the system for issues. Before installation takes place, first specify your installation preferences. Leave the default version selected, which is the most current (stable) version.
The next item shows the URL for your domain in the first box, and in the second box is where you need to specify the name of the directory where you want to install Magento.
Notice the “Access URL”, which shows the full path where your Magento instance will be accessible.
The Advanced Options allow you to create the login for the Administrator’s account, and specify the details for the database that will be used for Magento. If you skip these options, SimpleScripts will automatically generate a username and password for the Administrator, and also create a database.
Click on the “Click to display” link.
To have it automatically generated, click to select the check box. To specify a username and password, clear the check box to bring the fields back into view.
Next, choose how the database will be created. To specify a database, clear the checkbox and enter the database details. Be sure to enter the full database name and username. Prefix the name with the first 8 characters of your domain name, with an underscore. Example: the domain used in this demo is “nexdocs.net”, and the name assigned to the database that we created is “magento”. So, the full database name that we need to enter is “nexdocsn_magento”.
Use the same convention when entering the database user account information.
Click the link to read the OSL3 license agreement.
Click the checkbox if you agree to the terms.
Click Complete to execute the installation.
When installation is complete, details of the installation are provided on the page. You will also receive an e-mail with this information.
This concludes the demo on how to install the Magento eCommerce platform to your domain, using SimpleScripts.
